Our base rates for our hunts are guided with two hunters per guide. However, we do not pair strangers for the hunt and you are responsible for choosing your hunt partner. Make sure your partner has the same hunt goals and is of equal physical condition as yourself. If you choose to hunt alone with your guide we add $750.00 to your hunt fee.

Elk licenses are obtained through the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Special Draw lottery in early April of each year or through the purchase of a Landowner Authorization Permit. The SFGC assist and advises all client hunters on the process. If you miss the draw and still want to hunt sometimes we can purchase authorizations in the units we are conducting our hunt within. 

Pecos Wilderness Horseback Elk Hunt in Unit 44/45
Wilderness is described as federal land designated by Congress as a place where "earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain" (Wilderness Act of 1964). An estimated herd of 1,400 elk range here along with bighorn sheep, mule deer and bear. The guided hunts will be conducted on horseback and based in fully outfitted wall tent camps. This is the real western adventure and elk hunt of your dreams.

This is the real deal – a trophy elk hunt in a wilderness setting – unlimited land to hunt and a very large elk herd in it’s natural state. Most days we will hunt right out of camp while some days we’ll drop off hunting parties in remote locations for the day or overnight.

Public Land Limited Draw Hunts
Over the past twenty years of my hunting experience here in New Mexico, I have seen drought then forest fires and at the same time a growing elk herd combine to change the face of trophy elk hunting in the Southwest. The elk habitat continues to change and so do the hunts offered by the SFGC. The SFGC is continually scouting new locations to find the elk herds that will offer the trophy hunter the opportunity to harvest a quality bull. Some of these areas are growing world class bulls scoring 350 and up into the 400 inch class.  Each year we are finding these areas and gaining access to guide and outfit hunters to the trophy bull of their quest. If you are a hunter wanting to write the new record one of these hunts may be for you. 

Private Ranch Hunts
Each year we are granted permission to hunt private ranches that have guaranteed landowner authorizations.  The authorizations replace the need to get lucky and draw a license in the state elk lottery and we can sell the authorizations along with the outfitted hunt right up to the posted hunt dates in the fall. These ranches and surrounding lands have sizable elk herds grazing the cattle pastures, traveling through or bedding on their timbered slopes. The price of the hunt depends on the total acreage of the property and quality of the local elk herd.  Lodging is usually in cabins with modern facilities.
