The Santa Fe Guiding Company LLC provides guiding and outfitting for quail, pheasant and grouse here in New Mexico. We outfit and guide on private and public lands through out the state and provide bird dogs, lodging and field transportation during the hunts.  We are constantly improving bird habitat on private lands and continually scouting public lands to locate the highest bird populations as the weather and habitat changes each year.

The state is home to 4 species of quail, scaled or blue, Gambel's, bob white and Mearn's or montezuma that can be hunted on both private and public lands that the Santa Fe Guiding Company has access to.  Some of our locations have several species that can be hunted during your hunt.

2006-2007 Quail Forecast
Drought every where in the spring months throughout New Mexico did not allow for a successful early hatch considered to be the most important for high bird counts during the hunting season.  Unlike other southwestern states New Mexico did receive record breaking summer rains that in some areas have eliminated a 10 year drought!  Some areas have reported seeing late summer hatches and broods surviving heavy rains.
NOTE  New Mexico is forecast to have great late winter and spring moisture due to El Nino conditions in the Pacific!  Stay tuned for the 2007-2008 forecast.  We are also starting phase II of our habitat work with another 20 sections of awesome quail lands getting new ground water stations about every half mile tripling our prairie chicken habitat management areas.

SFGC Scouting Report
During our annual antelope hunts in September on our leased private ranches in southeastern New Mexico we found many young adult birds that could hardly fly and chicks still running on the ground.   I believe this fact shows that we had maybe two late successful broods.  On our prairie chicken management areas on these ranches in which we have completed our ground watering station programs the coveys of quail are double in numbers to our other locations.  The grass is as thick as we have ever seen it and there are coveys of 10-20 birds everywhere. 

World Class wild quail hunts on private land in Southeastern New Mexico 
I expect an average bird year but another great hunt for hunters wishing to hunt wild bobwhite and scaled quail.  Our habitat improvement programs are working big time and the bird numbers in these areas are higher.  We are land rich and will use our extensive lands to  spread the hunts out during the season so as not to put too much pressure on any covey and maintain a high bird count going into our spring. 
The SFGC has fully outfitted hunts that include two full days of hunting, two nights lodging on location, all of your meals, guiding and dogs.  You can add days to your hunt as well.  We also have provide single day hunts in many of our locations at affordable daily rates.
If you would like to lodge on our ranch with us we can accommodate parties up to 6 hunters at a time.

The SFGC is a dog friendly outfit providing huge private acreage full of wild rarely hunted close holding scaled and bobwhite quail, guides with quail hunting and dog handling expertise, dog and hunter accommodations and western dining.   

Up to Date Report 12/13/06
We are locating one covey after another throughout the day and the shooting has been excellent over our pointers when weather conditions have been favorable .  Our harvest has been about 50% bob white and scaled quail.  The month of December is combo dove and quail so bring lots of ammo.  We can outfit you in our comfortable house on the ranch or you can come hunt daily during our scheduled hunts.  Please book your dates ASAP to get in on a great hunt.
This past week our hunters enjoyed a great wild pheasant hunt on their first day followed by fantastic quail action on their second.

For the 2007 December Pheasant, quail and dove combo.  The SFGC is in the process of leasing lands for our combo hunt.  This will be one weekend in early December where hunters will be treated to a day of wild pheasant hunting and then a day of bob white and scaled quail hunting.  You can add days on either side.  Fully outfitted or day hunt pricing.
  
Blue Grouse September 1-30
The high country of New Mexico in September is a special place to be while hunting the blue grouse.  Bugling elk, golden aspen groves at their peak autumn colors and a bright blue New Mexico sky is the back drop for our wilderness grouse hunts.  We have single day trips within an hour drive of Santa Fe and provide multi day wilderness trips conducted on horseback for the adventure minded hunter. 

Pheasant
New Mexico has a short but very sweet pheasant season.  We have both ringneck and Hungarian pheasant with in our hunt areas and unlimited private land to hunt.  You can join our group in any of our locations for fully outfitted multi day outings or single day adventures.  We provide the leased private lands, lunch, guides and dogs.
